Instructions for Applying
We are pleased that you are applying to Fort Lewis College!
Three to four weeks after we receive your application, we will let you know an admission decision or if we need additional information.
To ensure a timely response, please submit all required documentation with your application.
Admission Classifications
Freshman - A student who is enrolling in college for the first time since graduating from high school.
Transfer - A student who is currently or has previously enrolled at another college or university for one or more courses since graduating from high school.
Re-Admit - A student who has previously applied to or attended Fort Lewis College.
Application Procedures
- Answer questions completely on all pages of the application. Do not use nicknames.
- Include a $40 non-refundable application fee (check, money order or credit card).
- In submitting your test scores, please use the following institution codes: ACT (0510); SAT (4310); TOEFL (4310).
High School Seniors
- Send a completed application and application fee to the Office of Admission and Advising.
- Request your high school transcripts* be sent directly to the Office of Admission and Advising.
- Have your ACT and/or SAT scores sent directly to the Office of Admission and Advising.
Transfer Students
- Send a completed application and application fee the Office of Admission and Advising.
- Have an official transcript* from ALL colleges and universities attended mailed directly to the Office Admission and Advising.
- High school transcripts and ACT and/or SAT scores also must be provided if you have completed fewer than semester hours at another college or university.
Home School Students
- Send a completed application and application fee to the Office of Admission and Advising.
- Provide an official copy of your high school completion records to the Office of Admission and Advising.
- Have your ACT and/or SAT scores sent directly to the Office of Admission and Advising.
Re-Admit
- Send a completed application and application fee to the Office of Admission and Advising.
- Have an official transcript* from ALL colleges and universities attended since date of initial application
(except Fort Lewis College) mailed directly to the Office of Admission and Advising.
GED Students
- Send a completed application and application fee to the Office of Admission and Advising.
- Provide an official copy of your GED results to the Office of Admission and Advising (450 composite minimum on the 2002 version; 45 composite minimum on the 1988 version).
- Have your ACT and/or SAT scores sent directly to the Office of Admission and Advising.
* A transcript is considered official ONLY if it is mailed DIRECTLY from the originating school to Fort Lewis College.

After we receive your application and your additional materials, we will let you know an admission decision or if we need
additional information. To ensure a timely response, please submit all required documentation as soon as possible.
Application materials may be turned in at different times but mark them clearly with your name.
Application Procedures for Graduate Students
- Answer questions completely on all pages of the online Graduate Studies Application for Admission. Do not use nicknames.
- Include a $50 non-refundable application fee (electronic check or credit card).
- Request official transcripts* from ALL colleges and universities attended for both undergraduate and graduate studies (except Fort Lewis
College) and have them sent directly to Fort Lewis College Graduate Studies or gradstudies@fortlewis.edu.
- Students who attended Fort Lewis College are not required to request official Fort Lewis College transcripts.
The Department of Teacher Education will request Fort Lewis College transcripts for you.
- Email a current resume to gradstudies@fortlewis.edu.
Write RESUME FOR [YOUR NAME] in the subject line.
- Submit
a 1,200 to 1,500-word statement in a Word document or PDF that
describes: 1) your interest in graduate education and how it contributes
to your personal and professional goals and 2) how the Fort Lewis
College graduate program to which you are applying will help you meet
your goals. Email your finished statement to gradstudies@fortlewis.edu.
Write APPLICATION ESSAY [YOUR NAME] in the subject line.
- For licensure-seeking students, please have ETS Praxis score reports sent
to Fort Lewis College or email confirmation of your Praxis content test
registration to gradstudies@fortlewis.edu.
- For Principal Leadership students, request two letters of recommendations, one from
your principal or supervisor and the second from a peer.
Troubleshooting
- If you receive an error message after entering your mailing address, please enter "1000 Rim Drive, Durango, CO 81301"
and then email your correct mailing address to gradstudies@fortlewis.edu.
- Applicants will not be allowed to register for classes until they are admitted and confirmed for the program.
- Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) scores are not required for admission.
* A transcript is considered official ONLY if it is mailed or
